AB INTRODUCTION: After one and a half years of starting the programme for

misconceptions. c. Condom usage, safe sex and impact on sexual
practices. d. STD infection and treatment. METHOD: Interview schedules
were used to conduct face-to-face interviews. Information from an
accidental sample of 50 respondents were collected and analysed.
FINDINGS: 90% of respondents are aware about HIV/AIDS. 54% of
respondents are aware of the difference between STDs and AIDS while 66%
are aware that AIDS is incurable. 47% are aware that usage of condoms
during penetrative sex prevents HIV .68% of respondents believe that HIV
affected cannot lead an active and normal life. 44% fear that homosexual
relationships lead to AIDS. 46% believe that excess of the body heat
causes STDs. 54% believe that AIDS is spread through anal and oral sex.
It is found that 44% of the truckers use condoms consistently thereby
increasing condom utilisation by 18%. Only 10% perceived the risk of
getting HIV infection. STD treatment facility component of the programme
remains weak.
